Banca Quadrum is one of the few financial institutions that did not request support from the federal government after Mexico’s financial crisis of 1994. However, the lack of assistance implied that the bank’s capital eventually became severely affected, and restructuring was required by Mexico’s banking and securities commission (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores).

Banca Quadrum retained ZIMMA to sell the bank to a group having the necessary characteristics and capacities to provide the institution with financial support.
To best serve the interests of Mexico’s finance secretariat (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público–SHCP), and based on the determination that liquidating the institution was more viable than a sale, liquidation was the chosen route of action.
