Grupo Carso / Televisa

Due to the inability of the shareholders of Grupo México, the owners of the La Caridad mine, to repay a federal government loan for US$1 billion, the Mexican government decided to sell the mine; a consortium of CARSO, TELEVISA, and Citibank participated in the bidding. Subsequent to the bidding, however, the Grupo México shareholders made a higher offer than the consortium and reacquired the company.
